The Outrigger Canoe Club's beautiful 57-year-old koa canoe Leilani was brought to Waikiki for the 50th annual Macfarlane Regatta. Club's were given the option of using fiberglass canoes in the surf after Waikiki Surf Club's Malia was damaged in the 1980 regatta. The Leilani has not been used in the wave race since 1979.

Guests in the VIP tent were 1940s paddlers. Front, Ivanelle Choyu. Seated: Peggy Melim, Sissy Fuller Fink, Lorraine Brown Williams, Roselle Robinson Armitage, Thad Ekstrand and Bill Cook. Standing: Tom Arnott. Ekstrand and Arnott were on the winning Senior Men's crew steered by Duke Kahanamoku in the 1943 race. Roselle was on the winning Senior Women's crew.
1992 Macfarlane Regatta
Outrigger's winning Makule crew: steersman Fred Hemmings, Peter Balding, Jack Mattice, Jim Peterson, Tom Haine and John Beaumont. The crew includes two Olympians (Haine and Beaumont), one world surfing champion (Hemmings) and three past-presidents of the Outrigger (Balding, Haine and Peterson). Beaumont was on the winning Senior Men's crew in the original 1943 Macfarlane Regatta that was steered and coached by Duke Kahanamoku.
