Read More2002 USPS Honors Duke With a Stamp
On August 24, 2002 the life and legacy of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku was celebrated by the U.S. Postal Servioce and the people of Hawaii with a commemorative postage stamp in his honor. The stamp, depicting a handsome, young Duke with Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head in the background was unveiled on Duke's 112th birthday.
2002 Paddleboard Run became Bloody Experience
Todd Bradley was on an early evening paddleboard run when something grabbed his whole foot above his toes. He was nearly pulled off his board by four hard tugs. He pulled his foot out of the creature's mouth and sprinted for the OCC beach. His foot was bloody but he determined it was not a shark bite or a barracuda. He decided it was a large ulua which is an aggressive hunter just outside our reef. Stitches were not required.
2002 Pareau Party
Outrigger's Women 45 & 55 canoe racing crews gathered for a pareau party after the Oahu Championships and celebrated everyone's birthday. 2002 Waterman of the Year
Fred Hemmings was presented with the Surf Industry Manufacturer's Association 2002 Waterman Achievement Award on August 17 in Dana Point, CA. Fred was honored for the indelible mark he has left on professional surfing, both as a competitor and organizer. Fred wore his Outrigger Winged "O" jacket to the ceremony, representing the Club and Hawaii surfing.
