Amy Lawson was out surfing at Rice Bowls when she noticed a man struggling on the inside of the impact zone. He had lost his board and was gasping for breath in the white water. She paddled over, got him on her board, and was able to get the attention of a life guard on a jetski who towed the man back to shore. A tired Amy also made it back safely.
2003 Surf Camp
OCC members, both junior and adult, participated in the summer surf camp run by Hans Hedemann. The groms hit the surf with trained instructions for several hours a day over a five-day period. Older members had the opportunity to further develop their surfing skills in the surf break within paddling distance of the Club.
