Thirty years after winning the first Na Wahine O Ke Kai Molokai-to-Oahu race in 1979, Outrigger women celebrate the 30th anniversary of the historic first race and their win at Outrigger Canoe Club, September 28, 2009. The crew: Sue Oldt Damon, Tiare Richert-Finney, Michele St. John, Sharon Bintliff, Tracy Phillips, Monte Costa, Anne Hogan Perry, and Suzy Johnston Hemmings. Not attending: Kaiulu Downing, Connie Maguire, Anita Minteer and Diana Smart.
2009 Ko Kainalu Program
Junior members of the Outrigger Canoe Club attended the week-long Ko Kainalu program at the Club, learning new water skills. This year's graduates are Ellen Ashford, Emma Bradley, Matthew Chan, Amber Daniel, Noah Deer, Kelly Heyer, Karl Heyer V, Easton Manson, Mariah Rigg, Kaya McTigue, Gus Soderholm and Jackie Wade. The program is put on the Club's Beach Services staff and the Beach and Water Safety Committee.
2009 Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Race 7-26-2009
Outrigger members competed in the Molokai paddleboard race: Chris Fong (left) teamed with Brendan Bradley (far right) to finish second in the MU29 relay division; Eric Abbott and Mikey Cote competed in the M18-29 Stock Division, finishing third and first.
2009 World Championship of Deaf Surfers
Trey Balding, center, won first place in the Longboard Masters Division and fourth place in the Shortboard Masters Division of the World Championship of Deaf Surfers at Kuhio Beach. Cheering him on were dad Peter Balding Jr., sister Liz, Trey, mom Mary, and grandparents May and Peter Balding.
