2013 Making 'Iako for the Leilani
The wood for the Leilani's 'iako was soaked in the ocean for about 10 days and then dried in the sun.
The bark was removed.
Domie Gose sands the wood to make it smooth.
The logs were then sawn to the proper thickness for molding into the 'iako.
The slats were shaped.
The slats were shaped to the proper curve.
The slats were glued together to make the two 'iako.
The front and back 'iako have slightly different shapes.
The finished 'iako.
