2015 ODKF Receives Alaia Surfboard
The ODKF received a 6'6" inlayed Alaia (thin traditional Hawaiian short board for the commoner) with various hardwood veneer inlayed in the desk to portray Duke Kahanamoku riding. It was a gift from Olaf deVries, a surf shop owner and building from Holland, who was visiting the islands. Accepting the board on behalf of ODKF were, front, Gary Oliveira, Roderik Patlin, Marinus Joris, Billy and McD Philpotts. 2015 Tropical Storm Nora
When Tropical Storm Nora was approaching the islands the waves at the North Shore were epic. While the adults partied, the kids surfed at Velzyland: Sirena and Kaimana Gentry-Balding, Eva Sandvold, Seanna Glatzel, Tasia and Nautica Gentry-Balding, Malia Sandvold, Teja Laird and Ava Kilpatrick.
2015 4-Man Koa Sailing Canoe Kaukahi
Tay Perry restored the 4-man Koa Sailing Canoe Kaukahi for display at the 1996 Wooden Boat Festival in Brest, France. Perry believes that it is the only koa canoe to sail in the Atlantic Ocean. The canoe was rigged in the traditional pre-discovery style and contains only Hawaiian woods.
