Winged "O"s Kawika Grant and Marc Haine congratulate each other on the completion of the new Winged "O" plaque. Marc arranged funding for the plaque and Kawika coordinated the photos and name plates.
2017 Senior 'Riggers Ukulele Class
The Senior 'Riggers program started a 10-week beginner's ukulele class on Mondays at the Club. Instructor Byron Yasui plays along with student Douglas Moore. Members had such a good time that they begged Yasui to continue new sessions for the next two years.

Monty VanderMay throws the hammer for gold at the National Senior Games in Alabama. He won the gold in the Men's 50-54 division. His throw was 105' 11.65".

2017 Koa Canoe Waterlining
A large group of paddlers turned out for the waterlining of the koa canoes at Keehi Lagoon. All koa canoes have to be weighed and measured by OHCRA every two years.
2017 OC-1 Champion Pat Dolan
Paul Dolan was crowned the 2017 State OC-1 Champion, the Kaiwi Channel Relay Champion and Kaiwi Channel Solo Champion. He set a new record in the 32-mile Solo race of 3;31:06.

2017 US Masters Short Course Swimming Championship
James Krueger shows off his medals from the Masters swim. He won the 4x50 Mixed Medley Relay and the 4x50 Freestyle Relay, was fourth in the 200-yard Freestyle and fifth in the 50 yard Freestyle. He competed in the 75-79 age division.
2017 Bob Fischer Memorial Trophy
Mike Nakaoka and Malia Gacutan were named the Outstanding Junior Boy and Girl Paddler for 2017 at the Paddler's Banquet and got their names on the Bob Fischer Memorial Perpetual Trophy. The Waikiki Cup was awarded to the Boys 16 and 18s for their contributions to the Club during regatta season.
2017 Athlete of the Month
Travis Grant was named Outrigger Athlete of the Month for winning his third Molokai 2 Oahu Standup World Championship. He also won the Pa'a Kaiwi Channel Solo in 2016, the first person to win both titles. He holds the record for the 32-mile M2O race at 3:59:52. Pictured with him are wife, Blair and son Hugo.
2017 The Ford Family Visits the Club
Outrigger Canoe Club founder Alexander Hume Ford family members visited the Club to see what their great great grand uncle had created. Barbara Del Piano, second from left, a member of the Historical Committee, hosted the group including Lucas Ford III, his wife and daughters. Ford was a native of South Carolina. He founded the Club in 1908 after an earlier visit in 1899. Ford never married and had no children, just nieces and nephews. Barbara gave the family a tour of the Club and a copy of her book, OCC: The First Hundred Years published in 2008.

2017 Malibu Surfers Reunite
Vicki Williams and Joe Quigg were Malibu surfers in the 1950s. Joe moved to Hawaii to become Outrigger's canoe builder and craftsman. Vicki visits regularly.

World champion surfer, canoe steersman and Winged "O" Fred Hemmings spoke about Duke Kahanamoku at the Historical Committee's Stew n Rice program.
2017 North Shore 5K Swim
Uli Klinke was one of three Outrigger members to compete in the North Shore 5K Swim despite shark warnings. He won the Men's 70-74 division.
2017 Pailolo Challenge
TeamTexaco Va'a Men 60s placed second in the Pailolo Challenge, a 26-mile canoe race from Maui to Molokai and were third in the Molokai Hoe. The team includes Mike Tosaki, David Wadsworth, team manager Lexy Hada, Barney Robinson. Not pictured: Cormac O'Carroll and Bill Lawson.

Stefan Reinke and Ryan Leong swam across the Kaiwi Channel between Molokai and Oahu in 19 hours, 43 minutes.

Stefan Reinke swam across the Kaiwi Channel from Molokai to Oahu in 19:43. He left Molokai at 6 p.m. and arrived at Sandy Beach nearly 20 hours later. He said the channel was unusually calm.
